Isaiah 54 – It’s Good to be Got

Hey FBE-ers!

“God’s gonna get you!!!”

All too often, I think that is the mindset we subconsciously have concerning God.

Just this Sunday I was talking with two members of our church, and one of them began to joke about just how wise and smart he was.
The other member smiled and “crescendo-ed” out an, “Ooooooooo,” while she took a step back away from him as if to say, “I’m pretty sure God is about to strike you with lightning for your pride, and I don’t want to be next to you when He does!”

It was all in good fun.

But things are usually only funny if there is enough “truth” in the joke to contrast with the silliness of the “untruth” in the joke.
The fact that we all found it funny demonstrated that we all were aware of this idea about God –

Be careful…
Cuz God’s gonna get you!!!
Now… make no mistake here.
I believe with all of my heart that God want’s to get you!

I just believe with all of my heart that if you’ll give yourself to God, His “getting” of you will be good.

It’s good to be got by God.

At least on this side of judgment day.
O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
I will build you with stones of turquoise,
your foundations with sapphires.

I will make your battlements of rubies,
your gates of sparkling jewels,
and all your walls of precious stones.

All your children will be taught by the LORD,
and great will be your children’s peace.

In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny will be far from you;
you will have nothing to fear.
Terror will be far removed;
it will not come near you.

If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever attacks you will surrender to you.

Isaiah 54:11-15

“If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing.”

God’s desire is to “get” you so that He can keep you so that no one else will ever be able to “get” you.

It is good to be got by God.

Did you hear the description of the city He gives us?
My daughter would LOVE that city.
Jewels and precious stones.
That’s a dream city.

And peaceful.
Tyranny and Terror gives way to peace and the instruction of the LORD.
It’s a safe city for our children.
They will have shalom – physical, mental, and spiritual health.

All because God comforted us…
because He calmed the storms of this world…
because He stepped into our affliction.

Why would we ever see Him as someone who is “out to get us”?
If we are His children,
He has already gotten us!

And His getting is good!

If you are being tempted, don’t say that God is tempting you!
God is not tempted by evil and He tempts no one!!!

If you are going through a difficult time, don’t say that God is testing you from afar.
God has promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

If God is testing you, then like a good teacher, He is only testing you over material He has already instructed you in…
material He has already equipped you for…
material that He will walk with you through …
with the Holy Spirit beside you and within you.
The Spirit of adoption within us is the great Comforter, the great Reminder of Truth, and the great Guide.

If you are attacked, it is NOT HE WHO IS ATTACKING YOU!

If you are going through a tough time as a believer,
remember that “God’s already got you.”
And His “getting” is good.
Rest in His “getting” of you.
Especially in times of testing.

If you are attacked, it is NOT HE WHO IS ATTACKING YOU!

He wouldn’t attack what He has already got.
That’s why He has set you in such a beautifully fortified city.
He got you so that no one else and nothing else will ever be able to get you.

It is good to be got by God.
Resting with you in God’s got,
