Be still and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”   Be still and know that I am God. This is probably the most difficult part of the charge behind this verse.  Be.  Still.  Stop the motion of your life.  Stop the motion of your mind.  Stop the motion of… you. It is one of the hardest things to do as a parent… to get your child – now in a fit – to calm down and listen.  “Be still,” we......

Well… I missed my Monday morning deadline this week by only 75 hours or so. It’s been a crazy week.  Monday I went against my better judgment and helped rescue the youth from the side of the road on their way to camp.  (Actually there was very little rescuing, and most of the work was done by the Faires’ and Stacey Davidson).  Tuesday I sent my family off to California.  And Wednesday I was dealing with more things than I could shake a stick at.  I’m glad I missed the deadline.  It......

Hey FBE-ers!!! There are some nasty pitfalls out there that the enemy would love for us to fall into.  The way of Jesus is indeed narrow and difficult. Jesus wants us to follow Him.  Just as He called the 12 disciples to follow Him around and learn from Him – so He calls us. One pit we fall into as we engage our lives with Christ is the pit of instant perfection.  We remember that Jesus said, “Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect,” and after a season of trying......

Hey FBE-ers! I’ve been wondering how the sermon on being “more than conquerors” speaks to the practicality of FBE’s identity as discussed in yesterday’s sermon. This post explores that question: Well… I did it. I always tell myself not to do it. And when I do it I wish I hadn’t. I watched a “Christian television station.” Homeboy got on stage and began preaching that since Jesus told us, “What you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven…”, this now......

Hey FBE-ers!!! Think about this. Why was Jesus baptized?John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sin – Matt. 3:6;11; Mk. 1:4; Lk. 3:3. Why would Jesus enter into a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sin?He had no sin!!! (Heb. 4:15). Perhaps it was merely to give us an example to follow? Or perhaps it was something more. “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.” 1 Tim. 1:5  He saved sinners......

Hey FBE-ers!!! I heard the following parable in a sermon one time and was struck by it.  It is not a story found in scripture, but I think it makes a good point. After Jesus was resurrected and ascended into the heavens, Gabriel and Michael came up to Him and said, “Wow Jesus!  That was awesome!  You represented the power and depth of the love of the Father perfectly!  What is the plan to spread your message to the world?” Jesus said, “You remember my followers, the 12 apostles and the others?”......

Schools back in session.  Students and teachers, I pray that the Holy Spirit would empower you with Christ’s sacrificial and unflinching love this year.   In just 3 weeks or so, students may begin dreading the infamous progress reports. A failing or near-failing grade on this report can have significant effects on extracurricular activities and rain down parental discipline. But sometimes a progress report can give us the motivation to move forward. I was running this morning – past dumpsters seeping out sickening stenches, beside a canal reeking of spoiled mud, and......

Hey FBE-ers! Have you heard of the Flat Earth Society?  It’s a group of people, existing since the 1950’s, who believe and teach that the Earth is, in fact, flat. NASA is a scam. The Solar System is a conspiracy. The society, as I understand, began because some people decided to allow their interpretation of the Bible to instruct them on proper geology and cosmology. They feared a conspiracy to replace faith with science. And yet, there is much to learn about God in studying space. As we learn more about constants......

Hey FBE-ers! On Sunday we discussed God’s view of homosexuality.  I promised to elaborate a bit more on the brief biblical overview of homosexuality that was presented in the sermon.  So I will do so here. I cannot emphasize strongly enough, that this biblical overview should not be taken apart from the context of the sermon it was embedded in.  I encourage everyone who is reading this blog who hasn’t heard the sermon to do so.  You can listen to it here:  Identifying Grace: God and Homosexuality. Genesis: 1:26-27; 2:23-25 God created......
