Hey FBE-ers! Let me tell you her story. She had just closed.  She was physically and emotionally exhausted, but she knew that when she got home, she had to be there for her kids.  It was already difficult enough for her kids that she had to work long hours away from them – She didn’t want them to feel like their mom was too tired to love them and play with them. As she was contemplating these things she looked up and could not believe her eyes.  They were still there. These......

Hey FBE-ers!!! Well, we started a new series on Sunday called, “The Way.” If you remember, earlier in our walk through the book of Luke on Sunday mornings, we had a series called, “Heritage: The Past Paves The Way.” At that time, I didn’t know we would eventually have a series called, “The Way,” but I love that this is where we have ended up! It is almost as if we are walking along “a way” through the book of Luke… discovering step by step just some of the intricate riches God......

It springs up from the heart like a lily. There must be more. Eyes open up from the soul in yearning. Is there nothing different?   Day in and day out the grind shaves me down. My marriage problems, my kids’ issues, my job’s stress, my boss, the moron in traffic, the jerk in the store. Bills and repairs and cleaning and trimming. And sickness. And death. Do I need more? Do I need different? Or do I need resurrection.   I can yell at the jerk in the store. I can......

Hey FBE-ers!!!   Well… I guess it’s confession time.  I’m about to explain how I know I have a huge pride problem – I’m sure Beka has more reasons than what I’m going to share here  🙂   I know I have a huge pride problem because praise makes me squirm.    When someone comes up to me and says, “Wow.  That was a great sermon!”  Or “What a great insight you had there!”  I can get really awkward.   I’m worried that if I say, “Thanks,” then I sound prideful… I’ll......

Hey FBE-ers! I went to a Christian University (actually I went to 3!) – a Baptist Christian University.  We didn’t have dances at that University… I’m pretty sure it was against the rules.   We did, however, have “foot functions.” I’m not making this up.  Dances were bad.  If we renamed them, “foot functions”, all was well in the heavens. One thing you may hear if you attend a Christian danc… er… I mean… foot function, is the following phrase:   “Be sure to make room for the Holy Spirit!” That means,......

Hey FBE-ers!!! I don’t know why, but I was thinking about my In-Law’s journey toward parenthood the other day.  If you don’t know their story, they were unable to have children for the first 17 years of their marriage- even though they sought medical help.   There were times when their childlessness broke their hearts. God called them to be missionaries in an area in Africa where husbands would take another wife after 1 to 3 years if the first wife did not produce children.   The Africans were amazed at Rex’s......

Hey FBE-ers! C.S. Lewis put the following upon the pen of Screwtape – an older demon writing to teach his nephew, Wormwood, how to best tempt a human. The demon writes, “One of our great allies at present is the Church itself.  Do not misunderstand me.  I do not mean the Church as we see her spread out through all time and space and rooted in eternity, terrible as an army with banners.  That, I confess, is a spectacle which makes our boldest tempters uneasy.  But fortunately it is quite invisible to......

Hey FBE-ers!!! One of my favorite stories in Scripture is found in John 4, where Jesus talks to a Samaritan woman at a well. “Give me a drink.”Jesus is human.Like her.He offers her a chance to serve Him before she even knows who He is. “Jews don’t talk to Samaritans.  Men don’t converse in public with women.  Why are you talking to me?“She lives in categories that dehumanizes people.Jews say Samaritans are not human.Men say women are less human. She is a sinful Samaritan woman. “If you only knew me, you could find......

Hey FBE-ers! Did you know that you were almost one pastor short this past Sunday? I had flown up to Dallas to run a 10k with my family…And then a winter storm hit. The thought of running in the fridged cold did not sound good to me.What if my flight home gets cancelled? This storm could ruin my trip!!!But actually, that winter storm was the “perfect storm” for me. You see, it was finals week for me.I needed to study my German and French vocabulary and grammar. And I needed to study for Sunday’s......
